Sign of the times.
Lately as some of you may have seen, parks are now caring more and more about theme than they ever have before. Chains can no longer get away with simply tossing up a coaster or ride with no name or theme. There has to be a theme, story or some sort of connection to the area around it. In addition to new rides with a theme, parks will often revamp the area around the latest ride to suit the theme of that ride. This year Steel Vengeance sought out a western outlaw theme, Twisted Timbers came with a haunted/abandoned orchard theme, RailBlazer a outdoors camping theme and Harley Quinn Crazy Coaster tying into the existing DC rides collection in the park.
That said Six Flags Discovery Kingdom has the opportunity to create/recreate the feel of the entire park with new areas and hopefully they will one day choose to do so. With that I've created a map of new areas I'd love to see them implement. Enjoy!

What we already know...
There are some areas of the park that Six Flags Discovery Kingdom is really working on in terms of adding new attraction whether it be rides, coasters of food offerings.
DC Universe
Six Flags Discovery Kingdom already is making progress towards some areas of the park, mainly the "Not-DC-Universe-DC-Universe". That's area #7 circled in blue. We already have FOUR DC rides there with more to come this year: Harley Quinn Crazy Coaster and whatever/if the park decided to convert a ride in that area into a DC ride (like Tsunami Soaker when it became The Penguin Ride).
Current Rides
Spring/Summer 2018Coming to Six Flags Discovery Kingdom in 2018 is the world's first Skyline Attractions SkyWarp. Using a mix between RMC Raptor and T-Rex track, this dueling infinity layout coaster will be themed to The Joker's equally maniacal girlfriend...

What I hope happens.2019: V2 retheme to The Flash |
Area #1
Oasis Plaza/Lost World
When the park moved to its current home in Vallejo a bunch of concept art was created showing proposals of different ways to theme the area and certain attractions of the current Oasis Plaza. That's area #1 labeled in orange.
As it stands, the area has 5 rides comprised of two flat rides and 3 coasters. The area is actually in fairly good condition, but Kong is unanimously hated by guests and enthusiasts for its lack-luster and the violently rough rides it gives. |

What I hope happens.
Vekoma 453m Family invert replaces Kong.As DollyWood preps for a nice set of 2019 additions, the Vekoma 453m family inverted coaster has come into light with a promising appeal to enthusiasts. They're fast, nice to look at, and overall intense for a family coaster. It would be nice to see an old age Vekoma invert be replaced with a new Vekoma family inverted coaster that sails through the trees and over a new pond, along with a new pond side restaurant. By adding more trees the Oasis plaza will look more like an oasis of sorts.
3-point Challenge or Ladder Climb replaced with entertainment stage/seating with new shows.I sometimes wonder if the park has an entertainment department at all. There are no shows (no, Looney Tunes dancing to current radio music does not count) so it would be nice if something were done about that considering there are a plethora of new and returning shows coming to CGA...
Read about those new shows here. |
The rest of the Oasis Plaza/Lost World will engulf the area where Tasmanian Devil, Scat-a-bout, The Ark and Boomerang as well as the hill/pathway to it doing away with the M&M stairs too.
Area #2
New Animal Sanctuary
One of the most controversial things about Six Flags Discovery Kingdom is their animal factor. While it seems they are slowly phasing out a good part of their animals (It began with the flamingos, then Shouka, and then the elephants) I do hope they keep them as it's a good place to go for educational field trip for kids.
While people debate on the morale of this, I don't personally have any issue with them being where they are as these animals are not releasable. Sending them to different caretakers or locations could pose logistical and separation issues, not to mention financial problem cause moving large animals is not cheap. With that I give you the revamped animal section of the park, area #2 in green. In addition, as efforts to comfort animals, all exhibits will be monitored reminding guests to be quiet and not to attempt to get the animal's attention. No disruptive behavior allowed. |
Current Attractions: mostly food and Tava's Jungleland...
This renovation is less about rides and more about creating large sanctuaries for the current animals. The area will see an expanse of the theme seen outside Temple of the Tiger.
2A: New long running space for Wolves & Tigers
Depending on the needs of certain animals the old two elephant theaters and area will be demolished and larger enclosures with more flat and terrained running space will be added. The current viewing pool and Temple of the Tiger will remain.
2B: New larger areas behind and past housing for giraffes
While they do not go far, the giraffes the park houses do like to wander to the borders of the current enclosure. Doing this would allow them to wander to the farther regions behind their house (along with a new guest path) and past Tava's Jungleland at the other end.
2C: Removal of Discovery Theater for new sanctuary + reduced noise
Shrinking some of the often forgotten about areas of Tava's Jungleland, this new area will have its back to Tava's Jungleland as a new enlarged space for the two sleepy lions. Plus, ride and guest noise will be shielded by noise canceling barriers.
2D: New expanded animal hospital
Replacing the current bird theater, a new two level animal hospital will allow guests to enter on the second level to see active work. Below guests can go halfway down to view the enclosures for animals currently recovering.
2E: Water side sanctuary + existing butterfly house
This new area will allow many of the park's smaller land animals to relax to custom enclosures suiting their needs along with discrete viewing areas for guests. This area would allow for these animals to be seen as guests float by on the current Intamin White Water Safari family raft adventure which would also see improved theme with new props.
Oh, and yes, VooDoo is gone. It physically remains, but the park has removed it from the website completely. Before it said "closed for the season".
Area #6
The Marina
This new area will need the least renovation. By taking the land that is used for McRotting Cemetery during Fright Fest and part of the Candy Cane Lane during Holiday in the park, a new sea lion exhibit will allow them to swim up and relax on floating barges as they would at Pier 39 in San Francisco. Monsoon Falls would remain, this would add to that theme.

Area #5
Bugs Bunny BoomTown / The Pier
|
As we've seen at Six Flags Over Georgia, Bugs Bunny BoomTown has taken over and seems to have gotten a good response from families and kids. While this isn't a high priority, it would be nice to see a revitalization of this area with a new playground or ride in the plot of the former kids water splash playground.
Some current rides and attractions need a little help right now as well as the neighboring WhistleStop Junction. As a continuation of the marina area, this is a quick little fix for the current Shark experience: rename it "Aquarium of the Cay", a play on words of Aquarium of the Bay in San Francisco. ;P
It'll tie in well to the following renewed area: |
Area #4
The Boardwalk
Adorned with a large modern era "BOARDWALK" sign, this newly revitalized area will solve the current issue with the boardwalk: there's not an actual boardwalk...
Along the side of the lake will be a brand new walkable boardwalk (with a safety net) and at the end a new Zamperla Disk'o in the place of an eating area to the right of the Shark Experience. In addition, SFMM is doing a similar revamp, so doing it here couldn't hurt. |
Area #3
High Sierra
As of now, the Toyota Stadium is currently used for a secondary dolphin theater venue. While it is okay, it would be nice to see the pools removed and filled for a new take on the Golden Bear Theatre at Six Flags Magic Mountain. With this new theme can come a brand new 150ft S&S Double Shot themed to a Redwood tree and an S&S El Loco coaster themed to I'm not sure what yet. Thrilla Gorilla and Monkey Business will remain.
The whole area will have a eerily similar vibe/feel to RailBlazer's theme. ;P |
Thanks for reading.
I hope you enjoyed this little explosion of my imagination, lol. I must remember to say that this is ONLY my ideas, none (except for what has been announced formally by the park) is official and this is 100% fan concepts.
